The best edition of this classic, by some distance。

This is a great book for anyone who wants to learn about AI - the only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is because Drs Russell and Norvig gloss over the question of conscious AI in favour of sticking to algorithmic AI - nonetheless well written and informative

This book is actually two books, one in computer science and another in statistics, incoherently combined。 It does not give a profound view of AI。 It touches it shyly in the first chapter with a lot of hesitant, unassertive statements。 It is used widely as a textbook but no longer due to its current size。 It is too big and talks about almost every scientific subject, which indicates its deviation and lack of focus on the main subject。I was relying on this book quite heavily until I shifted to th This book is actually two books, one in computer science and another in statistics, incoherently combined。 It does not give a profound view of AI。 It touches it shyly in the first chapter with a lot of hesitant, unassertive statements。 It is used widely as a textbook but no longer due to its current size。 It is too big and talks about almost every scientific subject, which indicates its deviation and lack of focus on the main subject。I was relying on this book quite heavily until I shifted to the works of the founding fathers of AI (i。e。, McCarthy, Minsky, Simon, Solomonoff, etc。), in addition to the recent advances in deep learning and Artificial Neural Networks。 Until then, I realized how misleading and cumbersome this book was。 The poor presentation of Neural Networks is demonstrative of the encountered slippage in this book to AI。 。。。more

This is the old testament of the AI bible (the new testament would consist of (among others) Sutton & Barto's Reinforcement Learning and Goodfellow's Deep Learning)。 Despite primarily outlining a paradigm often referred to as GOFAI (Good Old-Fashioned AI), this book is unmatched as a foundation for the field。 Artificial Intelligence might have been born at the Dartmouth workshop, but Russel & Norvig's tome provides a united overview and a terminology that is more relevant now than ever。I have ye This is the old testament of the AI bible (the new testament would consist of (among others) Sutton & Barto's Reinforcement Learning and Goodfellow's Deep Learning)。 Despite primarily outlining a paradigm often referred to as GOFAI (Good Old-Fashioned AI), this book is unmatched as a foundation for the field。 Artificial Intelligence might have been born at the Dartmouth workshop, but Russel & Norvig's tome provides a united overview and a terminology that is more relevant now than ever。I have yet to meet an AI researcher who doesn't proudly own a copy of AIMA。 。。。more

I had to read this as part of my Artificial Intelligence course in Georgia Tech's Online Master's in Computer Science program, and as an AI textbook it was excellent。 It provides detailed, and easy to follow, algorithms ranging from minimax and alpha-beta to Bayes Nets, Hidden Markov Models, A*, Neural Nets, and plenty more。 I did not read every page of this book, but I can attest that I would not have done nearly as well in my course without it and if I need to look up an AI algo, I'll turn her I had to read this as part of my Artificial Intelligence course in Georgia Tech's Online Master's in Computer Science program, and as an AI textbook it was excellent。 It provides detailed, and easy to follow, algorithms ranging from minimax and alpha-beta to Bayes Nets, Hidden Markov Models, A*, Neural Nets, and plenty more。 I did not read every page of this book, but I can attest that I would not have done nearly as well in my course without it and if I need to look up an AI algo, I'll turn here first to read what Russell and Norvig have to say first and then check other resources。 。。。more

It is indeed a great book, both didactic, precise, well paced and with a good bottom-up structure。

Considering my previous knowledge of Artificial Intelligence, this book was shite。Constant repetition of previously learnt algorithms and those hideous chapters on logic made me want to puke。 The humor was good and the writer came off as friendly, but Jesus was this a waste of time。

Read this book for my Premaster studies。It may be hard to understand some concepts from just reading the book, but in combination with other course material and videos I managed to get a good grasp of most concepts。 A good overall impression about AI!

The book touches a large number of topics in the area of artificial intelligence 。 For introduction in the field it is fine, but I don't like too much formalization and focus on just classical search based AI , and current techniques are way in the back with very introductory chapters。 I do not know how it should be done but there should be a combination of current and old。 The book touches a large number of topics in the area of artificial intelligence 。 For introduction in the field it is fine, but I don't like too much formalization and focus on just classical search based AI , and current techniques are way in the back with very introductory chapters。 I do not know how it should be done but there should be a combination of current and old。 。。。more

Absolutely stunning。 I managed to learn the basics of artificial intelligence using this book。 You don't have to know much before studying this book。 All you need to get by studying it is in there。 I personally had to study it a lot of times, but it was worth it。 The exercises are absolutely recommended, but the lack of programming exercises (It's not that there are not any, there are。 But there could be more, IMHO) is still felt。 Absolutely stunning。 I managed to learn the basics of artificial intelligence using this book。 You don't have to know much before studying this book。 All you need to get by studying it is in there。 I personally had to study it a lot of times, but it was worth it。 The exercises are absolutely recommended, but the lack of programming exercises (It's not that there are not any, there are。 But there could be more, IMHO) is still felt。 。。。more

Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach by Stuart Russel and Peter Norvig is book introducing the reader to a wide range of AI topics。 From the traditional Search problems to Natural Language Processing, this book has it all。 It brims with a lot of detail and is suited to anyone with an interest in AI。 If you want an introduction to this -sometimes daunting- field, this book is for you。Even though it doesn’t go in great detail in all topics, it offers a thorough investigation of most of them。 Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach by Stuart Russel and Peter Norvig is book introducing the reader to a wide range of AI topics。 From the traditional Search problems to Natural Language Processing, this book has it all。 It brims with a lot of detail and is suited to anyone with an interest in AI。 If you want an introduction to this -sometimes daunting- field, this book is for you。Even though it doesn’t go in great detail in all topics, it offers a thorough investigation of most of them。 The extra detail does not come with extra complications, thankfully, with the more advanced ideas covered in as clean a manner as the more basic ones。 There is pseudocode for most of the algorithms (and more is added with each edition) and there are a lot of examples, all of which make understanding and following the concepts so much more easier。What stands out for this book is how well written it is。 Everyone can pick it up with the most basic of backgrounds and they will understand and enjoy it。 The prose is clear and at times even playful and colorful。 This, on top of the great and simple explanations, makes studying it a joy。Also, for those who want to get their hands dirty with code, the book has some official accompanying public repositories (https://github。com/aimacode)。If you are interested in a guide in the fast growing field of Artificial Intelligence, look no further than this book。 I cannot recommend it enough。 。。。more

This is the AI bible, no doubt about it。 Though I would not recommend this book to anyone besides hardcore AI algorithm developers, this book does provide a solid introduction on agents and the concepts behind the algorithms。I ended up using it to look up terminology, as the summaries and readability (with definitions and examples) are very friendly。My suggestion, if you work on the field and even if more business related as myself。。 Do keep it on the digital shelves just in case!
